Making sense of America’s newest Guild… Again (Part 5) “Where Do We Go From Here?”

Today is the final episode of our 5‑part series based on my book Making Sense of America’s Newest Guild… Again: What I discovered in my search for answers.

We’ve talked about labels, lenses, values, and why MAGA became necessary in the first place.

Now we get to ask one more important question: Where do we go from here?

Story time!

A farmer stood at the edge of a property that was for sale. The field was full of weeds, barren fruit trees, rotting fences, and soil so dry it would make the Sahara Desert look like an oasis.

Another man walked up and said, “I wouldn’t live there; that field is done for.”

The farmer said, “You’re wrong. This field is not done for; it’s just been ignored.”

The other man said, “It’s the same thing.”

The farmer replied, “No, it’s not. ‘Done for’ means death; ‘wasted’ means neglect. And neglect can be reversed.”

America did not get to its current state because one politician failed it, or because one group ruined it, or because one ideology corrupted it. It got here because the legal citizens of this great country stopped tending the field.

We grew apathetic, lazy, willfully ignorant, and ungrateful.

We stopped pulling the weeds. We stopped tending the soil. We stopped repairing the fences. We stopped feeding the roots. We stopped planting the seeds of truth, liberty, responsibility, and accountability. We stopped learning our history. We stopped caring about our own home and our own family. We stopped caring about ourselves. And then, when the harvest was rotten, we acted shocked and pointed fingers in every direction but our own.

Where do we go from here?

We go forward.

If we desire a better nation, then we must first become better citizens. If we want truth, then we must first seek it. If we want liberty, then we must defend it. If we want change, then we must choose responsibility and accountability.

We must choose to tend to our field, water the roots, secure our foundation, rebuild our fences, prune the fruit trees, and be grateful for the field we were lucky enough to be born in.

America will not be saved in Washington. It will not be saved by one politician. America will only be saved by its citizens.

We move forward, recognising that MAGA is not the enemy. The enemies are apathy, ignorance, fear, division, complacency, self‑loathing, ungratefulness, the prostitution of our principles for appeasement, and the termites we allow to eat away at the tree of liberty.

We seek truth. We stop pretending the drip is irrelevant and the mould isn’t spreading. We stop sacrificing truth on the altar of appeasement and convenience. We stop compromising our values and convictions.

We begin to do the very thing we have evicted from our institutions, government, communities, and homes: we take responsibility and accountability for our own actions.

Because in the end, the field will not flourish, the trees will not produce good fruit, and the survival of this nation will not hang on the shoulders of one politician, one slogan, or one single movement.

It will hang on the shoulders of individuals like you and me who decide that the field is worth our time, effort, and energy to tend; that the foundation is worth repairing; that the roots to the tree of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are worth preserving; and that the truth is worth defending.

Maybe the real question is not about MAGA at all.

Maybe nations rise and fall based on the choices of ordinary citizens.

Maybe the real question is this:

If every American citizen lived with your level of courage, your level of responsibility, your level of conviction, and your level of gratefulness… what kind of country might we have?

Is that a country you truly want, or is it simply one you’re willing to tolerate.
